The octorilla is cross between a gorilla and octopus. It has the body of a. Gorilla and eight strong tentacles in place of arms.

Created by the wizard Mepherion as brutal guardians for great treasure he sought to keep from his enemies, which were many. The mighty octorilla  were hard to keep. Many escaped and have bred in the wild.

Multiattack: The octorilla makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with its tentacles. The octorilla has eight tentacles, and can attack with 2 of these each turn. It may attack with other tentacles while continuing a grapple, using up to all eight tentacles.

Bite Melee Weapon Attack:
+4 to hit, reach 5 ft, one target
Hit: 5 (1d6+2) piercing damage.

Tentacle Melee Weapon Attack:
+6 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target.
Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) bludgeoning damage. If the target is Medium or smaller, it is grappled (escape DC 13) and restrained until the grapple ends. The octorilla has eight tentacles, each of which can grapple one target.

Tentacle Slam. The octorilla slams creatures grappled by it into each other or a solid surface. Each creature must succeed on a DC 14 Strength saving throw or take 10 (2d6 + 3) bludgeoning damage and be stunned until the end of the octorilla’s next turn. On a successful save, the target takes half the bludgeoning damage and isn’t stunned.

This is my take on Dave Hargrave’s original. Maybe this version is more of a cross between a gorilla and an otyugh.I imagine this creature rampaging through a group of player characters, picking them up and throwing them around. I’m considering adding a berserk ability, after taking 50% damage the octorilla goes nuts throwing and smashing any and everything in it’s path in a blind rage. Just need to work out the mechanic for this. Suggestions welcome.

Depiction of the original octorilla by Erol Otus 1977.

Some tentacled gorillas from an old pulp magazine cover. These might have inspired Dave Hargrave.

I couldn’t find the octorilla in Arduin 1, 2, or 3. The Erol Otus image is in AG 2. Here are some stats I found online which purport to be from AG 1.

Octorilla Arduin I stats:

Looks like a huge black-furred ape 8′ tall with a bright red parrot-like beak, four yellow, sucker-covered tentacles instead of arms, and glaring red eyes.

HP: 68
AC: 6 (+5 DF)
CF: 17

NOTES: These carnivorous horrors usually haunt mangrove swamps or other “wet” areas where there is an abundance of trees and foliage. They are not truely amphibious but do not mind water and in fact, frequently hide in it to better ambush passers by. Each tentacle can strike for 8 points or wrap about a victim and crush for 4 points per melee round. Their rending beak can do 6 points of damage as well, but they seldom bite if a victim is still alive and kicking (15% chance). They fear fire fire greatly.
